Cultural Complex records steady construction progress: MCSY

Muscat: The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth (MCSY) reviewed its key achievements and performance indicators for 2025, alongside its future plans and strategic directions, during a media briefing held in Muscat.

The Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth affirmed that the ministry will focus in the coming phase on launching a package of qualitative programmes and events aimed at discovering young talents, refining their skills, building their capabilities, and creating an enabling environment for their growth and development.

The minister said the ministry implemented 687 activities and events during 2025, benefiting 105,376 people across the governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, reflecting the growing momentum of cultural, sports and youth-related initiatives and their outreach to various segments of society.

Meanwhile, the Under-Secretary of the MCSY, said that the cultural sector’s total activities under the Tenth Five-Year Plan reached 900 events and activities, benefiting 85,733 participants.

He added that the ministry supported 451 artistic groups, implemented 46 cultural initiatives, and conducted 23 research studies. Oman also participated as Guest of Honour at five international book fairs.

The under-secretary noted that 18 elements of intangible cultural heritage have been inscribed on UNESCO lists, including five national elements and 13 jointly registered elements.

Regarding the Sayyid Tarik bin Taimur Cultural Complex project, he revealed that completion rates currently stand at 49 per cent for the Literary Forum, 46 per cent for the House of Arts, 41 per cent for the Cultural Cinema, 38 per cent for the National Library of Oman, and 32 per cent for the National Theatre.

For his part, the Under-Secretary highlighted that the National Programme for Discovering and Developing Talented Athletes aims to identify and nurture sporting talents, strengthen integration between the education and sports sectors, and prepare a generation of athletes capable of competing at regional and international levels.

He further said that the National Youth Strategy is being prepared through a participatory and field-based approach involving more than 1,000 young men and women, using scientific methodologies and global best practices to analyse the realities and aspirations of youth in Oman.
